Before my mother died, we had already lost her to dementia. As her caregiver, I was able to reach out to the Alzheimer’s Society for ressources, support, and just to know that we weren’t alone in our struggle. Later on, when it came time to make end-of-life decisions, I was really grateful for the option of palliative care. In doing so, we saw that the kindness of others made a very difficult journey a lot gentler. Today I volunteer with Hospice Care Ottawa. To honour my mother, I am able to give other families an experience that might make their journey a little easier also. I give because I care.
