I decided to go back to school to earn my degree because my daughter was going to college and I had always been preaching to my kids how important education was. I wanted to also get my degree so I could share the experience with them and further my career. My experience for school was totally online. Going to school full-time and working full-time was definitely challenging. Not only that, I was also on school board, I was running marathons and you know just taking care of the household. But I love challenges and to be able to do that and actually finish and graduate was just one of my proudest experiences. Being able to switch companies and go to a larger company I really don’t think I would have been able to do it without my degree. So many companies nowadays require that you have a degree even to apply and my previous company I was a controller but I had worked there for 20 years and was able to work my way up the corporate ladder. Nowadays those opportunities, they really don’t exist like that. To be able to get a degree and sit at a table with CPAs and with auditors and have them ask, you know, “Oh where did you get your degree from?” And be able to say Oregon State, you know, makes me extremely proud.
