Student debt is no fun. Millennials understand
this, probably more than any other generation. But the fact of the matter is that a promise
was made to pay for school once a job was attained upon graduating. To simply wipe out all debt would set a terrible
precedent. Leave it to lefties like Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN)
to take the easy way out. From Daily Wire: Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) revealed earlier in
September that a major reason why she decided to run for Congress was to help pass legislation
that would eliminate her own student debt burden. “I am one of 45 million [Americans who owe
student debt] and it has been part of my journey and one of the reasons that drove me to run
for office,” Omar said while appearing on a BET News Town Hall. “I also have a daughter
— not only do I have student debt, but I have a daughter that is going to college in
two years and so the realness of this burden that we all feel shackled with has been real
for me.” Omar introduced legislation in June that would
cancel upwards of $1.6 trillion in student debt, forgiving outstanding federal and private
student loans. If passed, the Student Debt Cancellation Act of 2019 is estimated to cost
taxpayers $2.2 trillion over a decade. Omar needs to clean up her own messes first. For example, did you know she was arrested
for trespassing not too long ago? From Alpha News: State Rep. Ilhan Omar was arrested in 2013
for trespassing and booked at Hennepin County Jail “to prevent further criminal conduct,”
according to a newly uncovered police report. The incident took place on January 18, 2013
following an event at the Minneapolis Convention Center featuring former Somali President Hassan
Sheikh Mohamud. The Somali president was set to stay the night at the Hotel Ivy, causing
large groups of Somalis to follow the presidential convoy to the hotel, including Omar. According to the police report, hotel staff
requested police assistance in clearing the lobby, saying that anyone without a hotel
room key was not welcome on the premises and needed to leave immediately. The officer handling
the incident said the majority of people who were asked to leave were compliant. However,
Omar, when approached, was “argumentative” and refused to leave.
