– Public health involves
the effort by government, and by policy makers, to improve
the health of populations, of communities, of large groups of people. And they do that, both through
the enactment of policy, i.e. laws and regulations
that are designed to encourage better health among populations, and they also do that by encouraging good management of care. Because you could have the
best policy in the world, but if it’s not implemented,
if it’s not managed, if it’s not enforced, if it’s
not properly carried out, then it’s not gonna work. So, policy and management are
flip sides of the same coin, and in the public health arena, public health policy makers try to use both the techniques of policy
and the tools of management to encourage and ensure
better health of populations.
