WITH SUPPORT FROM VIEWERS LIKE YOU. JOHN BEL EDWARDS GOT 57% OF THE VOTE IN JEFFERSON PARISH. REASONS WHY JOHN BEL EDWARDS WAS RE-ELECTED. HOW SWEET IT IS! [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU! WHAT A GREAT NIGHT IT IS FOR LOUISIANA. THE GOVERNOR’S CELEBRATION AFTER A HARD-FOUGHT VICTORY. WE HAVE GOT TO CONTINUE TO WORK TO TRY TO MAKE IT WHAT IT SHOULD BE. A PLEDGE FROM THE MAN WHO JUST MISSED GAINING THE STATE’S TOP OFFICE. HI I’M, I’M ANDRE MOREAU, NATASHA WILLIAMS IS OFF TONIGHT. MUCH MORE ON THE TOP STORIES IN A MOMENT ON THIS WEEK’S EDITION OF “THE STATE WE’RE IN.” BUT FIRST, A LOOK AT SOME OF THE OTHER STORIES MAKING HEADLINES ACROSS LOUISIANA. A JUDGE SENTENCED EX LSU ASSISTANT MATTHEW NAQUIN FOR THE 2017 HAZING DEATH OF MATT GRUVER BUT SUSPENDED 2.5 YEARS OF THE TERM. THE SENTENCE CARRIES THREE YEARS OF PROBATION AND 1,000 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE UPON RELEASE. NAQUIN DID NOT TESTIFY AT THE TRIAL, BUT SEVERAL WITNESSES WHO DID SAY THAT HE DISLIKED GRUVER, WANTED HIM CUT FROM THE FRATERNITY AND PLAYED A CENTRAL ROLE IN THE DEADLY HAZING. GRUVER WAS AN 18-YEAR-OLD, PHI DELTA FATA PLEDGE ONLY WEEKS INTO HIS FRESHMAN YEAR AT LSU. TRYING TO GET A DRIVER’S LICENSE, A HUNTING OR FISHING LICENSE OR EVEN REPORT A CASE OF CHILD ABUSE ONLINE WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE MUCH OF THE WEEK WHEN AN ATTEMPTED CYBER-ATTACK SHUT DOWN MOST OF THE STATE’S GOVERNMENT WEBSITES AND EMAIL SYSTEMS. IT HAPPENED TWO DAYS AFTER THE STATE ELECTIONS. THE ONLINE ATTACK HAS CAUSED HUGE PROBLEMS AT THE OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLES AS THE STATE’S TECH SERVICES OFFICE WORKS TO GET THINGS BACK ONLINE AND THE OMV OPEN FOR BUSINESS. LOUISIANA IS REPORTING THE FIRST DEATH FROM A VAPING-RELATED LUNG INJURY. THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SAYS THE PERSON WHO DIED WAS AMONG 30 PEOPLE WITH THE AILMENT. THE DEPARTMENT IS STRONGLY ADVISING PEOPLE AGAINST VAPING. SINCE MARCH, THERE ARE MORE THAN 2,000 ILLNESSES REPORTED NATION-WIDE FROM VAPING, BUT THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL HAVE NOT FUND A SINGLE DEVICE, INGREDIENT, OR ADDITIVE IN COMMON. THEY ARE INVESTIGATING A THICK NER CALLED VITAMIN E ACETATE, USED IN THE THC VAPES. THE STATE AGENCY SAYS 17 LOUISIANA PATIENTS REPORTED SMOKING A COMBINATION OF NICOTINE AND THC. LEGISLATION FROM SENATOR BILL CASSIDY THAT WOULD SEND MORE FEDERAL OFFSHORE OIL MONEY TO LOUISIANA WON APPROVAL THIS WEEK FROM A U.S. SENATE COMMITTEE. CASSIDY’S COASTAL ACT INCREASES THE PERCENTAGE OF REVENUE SHARING UNDER THE GULF OF MEXICO ENERGY SECURITY ACT, OR GOMESA. THE INCREASE FROM 37.5% TO 50% WOULD BRING THE OFFSHORE PERCENTAGE IN LINE WITH ONSHORE ENERGY PRODUCTION. GOMESA IS AN IMPORTANT SOURCE OF MONEY FOR THE STATE’S $50 BILLION, 50-YEAR MASTER PLAN TO DEAL WITH THE COASTAL EROSION, RISING SEAS, AND SINKING LAND AND HURRICANES. THE RE-ELECTION VICTORY BY GOVERNOR JOHN BEL EDWARDS HAS ASSURED THE DEMOCRATS OF AN ALL-IMPORTANT PLACE IN THE TABLE WHEN POLITICAL MAPS ARE REDRAWN AFTER THE 2020 CENSUS FOR FUTURE ELECTIONS TO CONGRESS AND THE STATE LEGISLATURE. REPUBLICANS, WHO ALREADY CONTROL THE HOUSE AND SENATE, HAD HOPED TO CONSOLIDATE POWER BY DEFEATING EDWARDS. IF ONE PARTY CONTROLS ALL PIVOTAL STATE OFFICES, THAT PARTY CAN DRAW DISTRICTS TO THE ADVANTAGE OF ITS CANDIDATES OR JER GERRYMANDERED AND LOCK IN A PARTY’S POLITICAL POWER FOR THE NEXT DECADE TO COME. THE GOVERNOR ENDED WITH SAID FIRST NEWS CONFERENCE. HE OUTLINED GOALS AND PRIORITIES FOR HIS NEXT TERM, AND AMONG THE THINGS HE TALKED ABOUT WAS GERRYMANDERING. THE MANIPULATION OF POLITICAL MAPS TO FAVOR ONE SIDE OVER ANOTHER AND ESSENTIALLY, WASTE VOTES. WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE MAPS WHERE VOTERS CHOOSE THEIR OFFICIALS AND NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. WE JUST NEED FAIR MAPS, AND YOU KNOW, SOMETIMES YOU CAN JUST LOOK AT A MAP AND YOU SEE THE IRREGULARLY SHAPED DISTRICTS AND KNOW SOMETHING WAS AT PLAY. THE GOVERNOR ALSO TALKED ABOUT A PHONE CALL WITH PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP. TRUMP VILIFIED THE GOVERNOR THROUGHOUT THE CAMPAIGN. NOW THAT IT’S OVER HE OFFERED HIS CONGRATULATIONS TO EDWARDS. HE SAID HE LOOKED FORWARD TO WORKING WITH HIM TO MOVE LOUISIANA FORWARD ON NEXT WEEK’S SWI, WE WILL RECAP THE GOVERNOR’S ROLES AND THE OUTLINE IN THIS HUGE CONFERENCE. OF COURSE, THERE’S BEEN NONSTOP ANALYSIS AND UNPACKING OF THE RUN-OFF RACE FOR GOVERNOR, AND THE GUEST SPEAKER AT MONDAY’S BATON ROUGE PRESS CLUB GAVE HIS TAKE. DR. ALBERT SAMUELS FROM SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY. HE IS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE POLITICAL SCIENCE AT THE NELSEN MANDELA SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY AND URBAN AFFAIRS AT SOUTHERN. ONE THING I WANT TO MENTION IS TURNOUT. THE TURNOUT IN THE RUN-OFF ELECTION ON SATURDAY WAS 50.7%, ACCORDING TO THE UNOFFICIAL TALLY FROM LOUISIANA’S OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE. THAT IS ABOUT FIVE OR SIX — FIVE POINTS HIGHER THAN THE OCTOBER 12 PRIMARY. SPECIFICALLY, THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN TURNOUT. IT WAS HIGHER. DOING THE RUN-OFF, AND FOR A DEMOCRAT, FOR A DEMOCRAT, THAT’S IMPORTANT FOR THAT — JOHN BEL EDWARDS, DURING THE OCTOBER 12 PRIMARY, ABOUT 27% OF THE ELECTORATE WAS AFRICAN-AMERICAN, AND THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE REASONS WHY THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO WIN THE OCTOBER 12 PRIMARY OUTRIGHT, SO THEY WERE ABLE TO GET THAT UP. SPECIFICALLY, IN ORLEANS’ PARISH, EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, AND ALSO IN CADDO PARISH. THAT WAS VERY IMPORTANT. OUT OF ORLEANS’ PARISH, JOHN BEL EDWARDS GOT OVER 100,000-VOTE LEAD WINNING THAT PARISH. 90% TO 10%. ALSO THERE WAS A BIG UPTICK IN EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH COMPARED TO WHAT WE SAW ON OCTOBER 12. SO THAT WAS ONE OF THE ELEMENTS THAT HAD TO HAPPEN FOR JOHN BEL EDWARDS IN THE RACE FOR HIM TO WIN IS TO HAVE A LARGER TURNOUT. NOW WITH THE JOHN BEL EDWARDS’ WIN IN SOME OF THESE TRADITIONAL DEMOCRATIC PLACES, URBAN CORES, LIKE SHREVEPORT, BATON ROUGE, AND NEW ORLEANS, BUT JOHN BEL EDWARDS ALSO CARRIED JEFFERSON PARISH, AND BEING A STUDENT OF LOUISIANA POLITICS FOR THE LAST 50 YEARS OR SO, THIS IS A BIG DEAL, THIS IS A SEISMIC SHIFT IN LOUISIANA POLITICS. JEFFERSON PARISH, I MEAN, IN A WAY IS LIKE THE CRADLE FOR THE MODERN REPUBLICAN PARTY IN THE STATE OF LOUISIANA. JOHN BEL EDWARDS GOT 57 BEST OF THE VOTE IN JEFFERSON PARISH. JEFFERSON PARISH HAD THE SECOND HIGHEST TURNOUT IN ABSOLUTE NUMBERS IN THE ENTIRE STATE. OTHER THAN EAST EVANGELINE PARISH, SO THAT WAS ANOTHER FACTOR IN JOHN BEL EDWARDS’S VICTORY, WINNING IN JEFFERSON PARISH, WITH A WIN IN JEFFERSON PARISH. THERE IS THE ISSUE OF DONALD TRUMP. WHAT WAS THE TRUMP EFFECT? THIS IS LITERALLY AND METAPHORICALLY THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM. OF COURSE, OBVIOUSLY, EDDIE RIPSONE, UNLESS YOU ARE UNDER A ROCK DURING THIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN, HE ATTACHED HIMSELF TO DONALD TRUMP AS IF IT WAS HIS UMBILICAL CORD. HE RAN AS THE TRUMPIST OF ALL THE CANDIDATES. HE TRIED TO NATIONALIZE THE RACE. HE TALKED ABOUT IMMIGRATION. HE TALKED ABOUT SANCTUARY CITIES. HE ACCUSED JOHN BEL EDWARDS OF RELEASING DANGEROUS CRIMINALS ON LOUISIANA STREETS. ETC., ETC THE PRESIDENT HIMSELF, OF COURSE, MADE THREE TRIPS TO LOUISIANA, TWO DURING THE RUN-OFF IN MONROE AND ALSO IN BOSSIER CITY. IT APPEARS THAT THE TRUMP EFFECT WAS MIXED. THERE IS EVIDENCE THAT THE REPUBLICAN TURNOUT DID GO UP IN SOME OF THOSE PLACES. BUT, IT WAS OVERWHELMED BY THE UPTICK IN EDWARDS’ SUPPORT BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND RUN-OFF ELECTION. HE CAN ALSO BRING OUT MORE RURAL VOTERS WHO SUPPORT THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES, AND HE ALSO — TENDS TO MOTIVATE THE OPPOSITION. WELL, IT WAS ELECTION CENTRAL IN BATON ROUGE THIS PAST SATURDAY NIGHT WITH BOTH THE EDWARDS AND EDDIE RIPSONE CAMPS FILLED WITH SUPPORTERS WHO WAITED FOR THE RETURNS TO COME IN. NOW, LET’S GO BACK TO HEAR IN EACH CASE WHAT EACH CANDIDATE SAID AFTER WEEKS OF MUD-SLINGING, DEBATING AND PRESIDENT TRUMP INTERFERING, IT CAME DOWN TO A LARGE GRASSROOTS’ EFFORT IN THE URBAN AREAS TO HELP PULL THE DEEP SOUTH, ONLY DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR ACROSS THE FINISH LINE. NATASHA WILLIAMS WAS AT EDWARDS’ HEADQUARTERS ON ELECTION NIGHT. THE ENTHUSIASM WAS HARD TO CONTAIN. WHEN THE FINAL NUMBERS FLASHED ACROSS THE SCREEN, SUPPORTERS OF DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR JOHN BEL EDWARDS WERE OVERJOYED. CROWDS PACKED INTO THE RENAISSANCE HOTEL IN BATON ROUGE, JOINING ELECTED OFFICIALS AND SUPPORTERS ON THE STAGE SINGING OUT LOUD. EVEN THE GOVERNOR’S NORMAL MEASURED DECORUM MATCHED THE ACCOMPLISHMENT. [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU! WHAT A GREAT NIGHT IT IS FOR LOUISIANA! AND TO GOD BE THE GLORY. MY LOVE FOR THIS STATE DEEPENS WITH EVERY DAY THAT I HAVE THE HONOR TO SERVE AS YOUR GOVERNOR BECAUSE EVERY DAY I GET TO MEET MORE LOUISIANIANS WHO REMIND ME HOW BLESSED WE ARE TO CALL THIS GREAT STATE HOME. THE GOODNESS, THE DECENCY, THE GENEROSITY OF THE PEOPLE OF LOUISIANA INSPIRE ME. JUST LOOK AROUND THIS ROOM. THIS ROOM LOOKS LIKE THE GREAT STATE OF LOUISIANA! [CHEERING AND APPLAUSE] AND THIS IS YOUR NIGHT, EVEN MORE THAN IT IS MINE. GETTING THROUGH THIS NIGHT OF CELEBRATION AND ANOTHER FULL YEAR WAS ON A SOMETIMES DARK AND NASTY ROAD. SIX WOMEN REPORTED JOHNNIE ANDERSON — AS EDDIE RIPSONE AND HIS SUPPORTERS NATIONALIZING THE CAMPAIGN AND MAKING CLAIMS THAT THE EDWARDS’ CAMP CALLED OUTRIGHT LIES. NOT WHEN YOU ARE A WOMAN LIKE ME. AND PRESIDENT TRUMP LAUNCHING HIMSELF SQUARELY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CAMPAIGN MAKING THREE TRIPS TO THE STATE TO SUPPORT BATON ROUGE BUSINESSMEN, EDDIE RIPSONE, ON THIS TRIP TO MONROE, THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF TELLING A PACKED CIVIC CENTER JOHN BEL EDWARDS HAS GOT TO GO. HE VIOLATED YOUR SACRED TRUST AND COULD NEVER BE TRUSTED AGAIN. HE RAISED YOUR TAXES, AND HE’S DONE NOTHING ABOUT YOUR CAR INSURANCE. AND VICTORY OF THE DEEP SOUTH, ONLY THE GOVERNOR THANKED THE SUPPORTERS WHO WENT THE EXTRA MILE. YOU DID NOT JUST VOTE FOR ME. YOU VOTED FOR FOUR HER YEARS OF PUTTING LOUISIANA FIRST. [CHEERING AND APPLAUSE] YOU MAY HAVE HEARD ME SAY ONCE OR TWICE THAT GOD WILL ORDER OUR STEPS. BUT WE HAVE TO MOVE OUR FEET! AND YOU MOVED YOUR FEET TO THE POLL! YOU PICKED UP PHONES AND YOU HANDED OUT YARD SIGNS. YOU GAVE YOUR NEIGHBORS A RIDE TO THE VOTING PRECINCT. ALL OF YOU HAVE A REASON WHY THIS ELECTION WAS IMPORTANT TO YOU. IT MAY NOT BE THE SAME REASONS, BUT IT IS YOUR COLLECTIVE EXPERIENCES THAT MAKE UP THE STORY OF LOUISIANA. HE CALLED FOR HEALING AND RECONCILIATION AFTER DEFEATING EDDIE RIPSONE WITH 51% OF THE VOTE. YOU KNOW I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH EDDIE RIPSONE EARLIER THIS EVENING. I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I THANKED HIM FOR PUTTING HIMSELF OUT THERE, FOR PUBLIC SERVICE. IT’S A DIFFICULT THING FOR ANYONE TO DO. WE BOTH AGREED THAT THE TIME FOR CAMPAIGNING IS OVER. NOW OUR SHARED LOVE FOR LOUISIANA IS ALWAYS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE PARTISAN DIFFERENCES THAT SOMETIMES DIVIDE US. AND AS FOR THE PRESIDENT, GOD BLESS HIS HEART. AND AS FOR THE PRESIDENT AND HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE GOVERNOR’S RACE, FORMER DEMOCRATIC SENATOR JOHN BREAUX SAYS IT COULD BE AN IMPORTANT TELL FOR REPUBLICANS. I THINK THAT’S A STRONG NATIONAL STATEMENT THAT PRESIDENT TRUMP DOESN’T HAVE COAT TAILS LIKE THEY HOPED THAT HE WOULD TO COME HERE THREE TIMES AND STILL NOT WIN IS VERY SIGNIFICANT. HE MAY TRY AND SAY, IT DOES NOT MATTER. IT DOES MATTER. THE SITUATION IN KENTUCKY, YOU KNOW, HE WENT TO KENTUCKY AT THE LAST MINUTE TO TRY TO PULL THAT GOVERNOR ACROSS THE FINISH LINE, AND IT DIDN’T HAPPEN. SAME THING. SAME THING HERE. BUT IN FACT, HE CAME HERE THREE TIMES. NOT JUST ONCE. KENTUCKY HE CAME ONE TIME AND LOST. IF HE COMES HERE THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR A BIG RALLY, STILL NOT ABLE TO BE SUCCESSFUL, THAT SENDS A STATEMENT TO THE WHITE HOUSE THAT THEY SHOULD BE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE NEXT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. AS HE HEADS INTO A NEW TERM, THE GOVERNOR SAYS HIS PLAN REMAINS THE SAME, PUTTING LOUISIANA FIRST AND MOVING THE STATE FORWARD. THE ADMINISTRATION BEGAN WITH A BREEZE OF HOPE. HOPE THAT BY WORKING TOGETHER AS LOUISIANIANS FOR THE MOST PART, NOT AS REPUBLICANS OR DEMOCRATS. WE COULD MAKE LOUISIANA THE STATE THAT WE WANTED TO BE. AND WITH EVERY STEP FORWARD, WE TURNED THAT HOPE INTO ACTION, AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO DO IN OUR SECOND TERM. [CHEERING AND APPLAUSE] PRECINCT AFTER PRECINCT AS VOTES CAME IN, IT WAS EDDIE RIPSONE AHEAD OF EDWARDS MUCH OF THE ELECTION NIGHT, BUT AS ALL THE VOTES CAME IN, THE NUMBERS CAME UP JUST SHORT OF WHAT HE NEEDED. HIS SUPPORTERS PACKED A BALLROOM AT THE LAUBERGE CASINO IN BATON ROUGE, AND I WAS THERE. GIVE HIM A WARM WELCOME. HE’S WORKED REALLY HARD TO BE HERE. PLEASE WELCOME EDDIE RIPSONE. [APPLAUSE] WITH THAT INTRODUCTION FROM HIS SON, EDDIE RIPSONE CAME OUT TO ADDRESS A GROUP OF SUPPORTERS. THEY CHEERED FOR THE MAN MAKING HIS FIRST RUN AT ANIMAL OFFICE. THE REPUBLICAN THAT THEY WENT WOULD BE MOVING INTO THE GOVERNOR’S MANSION. WE HAVE NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF. WE HAD 700,000 PEOPLE IN LOUISIANA REALLY WANT SOMETHING BETTER AND SOMETHING DIFFERENT. [APPLAUSE] MANY OF YOU WORKED VERY, VERY HARD, AND I APPRECIATE THAT. IT’S VERY HUMBLING TO KNOW THAT WE HAVE THAT MANY PEOPLE REALLY WANT SOMETHING BETTER. YOU PUT A LOT OF YOUR TREASURES AND TIME AND YOUR HEART IN THIS, AND YOU WERE DOING IT FOR THE RIGHT REASONS. WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO DO THAT. WE ARE GOING TO WORK IN THIS STATE AND MAKE SURE THAT WE DO ONE DAY MAKE THIS THE BEST STATE THAT IT CAN POSSIBLY BE, NOT BE LAST, AND WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO DO THAT. GOD HAS BLESSED THIS STATE. WE KNOW IT. WE HAVE AN INCREDIBLE STATE HERE, SUCH A BLESSING THAT GOD HAS GIVEN US, AND WE HAVE GOT TO CONTINUE TO MAKE IT WHAT IT SHOULD BE. I AM DISAPPOINTED, BEING VERY HONORS, BUT I WANT TO TELL YOU, I AM GRATEFUL TO LINDA. SHE HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE. [APPLAUSE] 13 MONTHS I HAVE DRUG HER ALL OVER THIS STATE, AND SHE HAS NEVER COMPLAINED. IT’S AMAZING! COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT HER. THERE’S NO QUESTION ABOUT THAT. AND I HAVE THIS AMAZING FAMILY BEHIND ME. THEY HAVE SUPPORTED ME. [APPLAUSE] IT’S THE FOUNDATION OF LIFE. TO GROW UP WITH A BEAUTIFUL, LOVING FAMILY, THAT TAUGHT US ABOUT CHRIST, TAUGHT US ABOUT WORK AND RESPONSIBILITY, ALSO TAUT US TO BE GRATEFUL FOR THE BLESSINGS THAT WE RECEIVED FROM GOD. AND SO THERE IS NO REGRETS THERE. WHEN YOU TRY TO SERVE HIM, YOU DO THE BEST THAT YOU CAN. THAT’S WHAT WE HAVE DONE. WE WORKED VERY HARD. YOU WORKED VERY HARD, AND I AM GRATEFUL FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND THAT YOU LOVE THIS STATE AND YOU WANT TO SEE IT DO BETTER. THANK YOU. GIVE YOURSELVES A ROUND OF APPLAUSE, PLEASE. [APPLAUSE] I WAS BEING INTERVIEWED BY FOX A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO, AND THE GENTLEMAN THAT WAS INTERVIEWING ME, IT WAS THURSDAY MORNING BEFORE THE PRESIDENT TRUMP — BY THE WAY, CAN WE GIVE PRESIDENT TRUMP A ROUND OF APPLAUSE? [APPLAUSE] THAT MAN LOVES AMERICA AND LOUISIANA. HE CAME DOWN HERE THREE TIMES TO HELP US. PLEASE GIVE HIM ANOTHER ROUND OF APPLAUSE. [APPLAUSE] THIS GENTLEMAN WAS INTERVIEWING ME, AND HE SAYS, MR. RISPONE, HE SAYS I HAVE GO THE TO ASK YOU A QUESTION, AND I SAID WHAT’S THAT, SIR? HE SAID WELL, WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON’T WIN? WHAT IS IT GOING TO BE LIKE TO GO BACK TO THE LIFE THAT YOU HAD BEFORE. I SAID HEY, HEY THERE, FELLA, I HAD A PRETTY GOOD LIFE. BETWEEN US, WE HAVE GOT SEVEN EXTRAORDINARY MARRIED CHILDREN. AND YOU KNOW WHAT’S COMING NEXT? 24 PERFECT GRANDCHILDREN! [APPLAUSE] AND HE LOOKED AT ME AND HE SAID WHAT ARE YOU DOING RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR? BUT TRULY YOU KNOW, I AM SO BLESSED FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND YOUR SUPPORT, AND YOU, OBVIOUSLY, KNOW I AM VERY BLESSED WITH AN INCREDIBLE FAMILY. GOD HAS CONTINUED TO BLESS US, AND WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THIS STATE, SO EVERY CHILD WOULD HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY, AN OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE AN EDUCATION. AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE HOPE. AN OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW CHRIST. GOD BLESS YOU, AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR BEING HERE. [APPLAUSE] RISPONE THANKED THE STATE’S REPUBLICAN LEADERS IN WASHINGTON, AND THOSE FROM THE GOP WHO WILL DOMINATE THE STATE LEGISLATURE. HEY, WHAT’S HAPPENING? GOOD TO SEE YOU. GOOD TO SEE YOU. HOW ARE YOU FEELING? I FEEL LIKE WHATEVER, WHATEVER YOU ASKED ME TO DO, I TRIED THE BEST. REALLY WORKED HARD. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, APPRECIATE IT. TAKE CARE. ALTHOUGH HE WAS WILLING, OUR CHANCE TO TALK ONE-ON-ONE WAS CUT SHORT BY CAMPAIGN ADVISERS, WHO SAID THAT HE WAS NOT TAKING ANY QUESTIONS. WE DID SPEAK WITH SENATOR BILL CASSIDY. THE PEOPLE SPOKE. IT’S WONDERFUL WE LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY. CONGRATULATIONS SO THE GOVERNOR. HE RAN A GREAT RACE. I THOUGHT EDDIE RIPSONE AND HIS WIFE, LINDA, WERE GRACIOUS. THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT OUR STATE. THEY ARE GOING TO STAY PLUGGED IN AND STILL WORK ON BEHALF OF THE CHILDREN OF THE STATE AND ON BEHALF OF ALL OF US. OF COURSE, I WAS ROOTING FOR EDDIE, BUT I AGREE WITH EDDIE, LET’S KEEP ON PUSHING FORWARD. IF YOU LOOK AT JEFFERSON PARISH, CAL WON SUBSTANTIALLY. BUT SO DID THE GOVERNOR, SO THERE WERE TICKET SPLITTERS BETWEEN REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS, SO HE RAN A GOOD CAMPAIGN. AND EASE ELECTIONS, ARE REFERENDUMS ON THE INCUMBENT, AND THE GOVERNOR WON THAT REFERENDUM. AND NOW YOU HAVE HEARD THE COMPLETE VICTORY AND CONCESSION SPEECHES THAT WE HEARD ON ELECTION NIGHT. YOU KNOW, WE ARE ABOUT TO ENTER THE HOLIDAY SEASON, AND NEXT WEEK SOUTHEASTERN GROCERS, THE PARENT COMPANY OF WINN-DIXIE, WILL DONATE ALMOST 8,000 FROZEN TURKEYS THROUGHOUT THE SOUTHEAST, INCLUDING NEW ORLEANS TO, HELP FEED THE ONE IN EIGHT PEOPLE WHO WILL STRUGGLE WITH HURRICANE WARNING. — WITHHUNGER. THIS MONTH, LOUISIANA PUBLIC SQUARE EXPLORES HOW THE STATE IS ADDRESSING THE FOOD INSECURITY PROBLEM. WE HAVE SEEN COMMUNITIES WITH OVER 20, 30,000 RESIDENTS THAT HAVE TO TRAVEL OVER A MILE TO GO OVER TO A GROCERY STORE. BUT BECAUSE THE MARGINS ARE LOW, AND THE GROCERY STORE INDUSTRY, SOMETIMES IT’S JUST A CHALLENGE TO HAVE ALL THE OFFERINGS FOR A HEALTHY MEAL AT AFFORDABLE PRICES, SO THAT IS THE GOAL TO BRING THESE RETAILERS TO LOW INCOME AREAS TO OFFER AFFORDABLE OFFERINGS THAT ARE HEALTHY. ONE OF THE BIGGEST LSU FANS I KNOW HAS A PET PARROT AND CALLS IT THE PETRA, LSU CHEERLEADER. THIS PARROT KNOWS PARTS OF SOME OF THE SONGS AND SOME OF THE LSU CLEARS. TAKE A LISTEN. [PARROT SOUNDS] THIS IS PETRA, AND THE OTHER VOICE YOU HEAR IS THAT OF HER OWNER, VICKI HUTCHINSON. VICKI GREW UP IN BATON ROUGE, GRADUATED FROM LSU, AND IS A LIFELONG DEVOTED TIGER FAN. IN LOUISIANA WE LOVE LSU FOOTBALL. OKAY. I AM THINKING, WHAT SHOULD I TEACH HER THAT SHE COULD PICK UP ON? SHE WON’T PICK UP ON THE WORDS BUT SHE PICKED UP ON THE BEAT, SO I THOUGHT OKAY, WELL, WHAT MAKES OUR BLOOD BOIL, FOUR LITTLE NOTES, BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH. BAH, BAH, BAH, BAL. SHE IS WHAT THEY CALL A BLUE CROWN CONURE. THEY ARE NOT KNOWN TO TALK, BUT WITH HER YOU HAVE TO SAY THINGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN, AND SOMETIMES JUST IF YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING, SHE’S GOING TO PICK UP ON IT. LSU! TIGER! ARE YOU BEING A PRETTY BIRD? PRETTY BIRD? PRETTY BIRD. BAH-ABOUT. SHE LIVES ON MY SHOULDER FOR THE MOST PART. SHE LOVES TO GO ON WALKS. YOU CAN TAKE HER HIKING? YEAH. WE DID. BUT ONE OF MY NEIGHBORS SAID WELL, YOU KNOW, I THINK THAT THAT’S KIND OF STRANGE. SHE GOES WALKING DOWN THE ROAD WITH A BIRD ON HER SHOULDER. I DON’T KNOW WHAT HER DEAL IS. SO I GUESS I AM THE CRAZY BIRD LADY. LSU! TIGERS! EVERYONE, THAT IS OUR SHOW FOR THIS WEEK. REMEMBER YOU CAN WATCH ANYTHING LPB ANY TIME WHEREVER YOU ARE WITH OUR NEW APP.
