The BDC elections of Jammu & Kashmir will be held on 24th October 2019. After the elections, results will be announced on the same day. After the conversion of J&K into a Union Territory and the removal of Article 370, these are the first elections to be held. The Congress did not agree with the government’s decision to convert J&K into Union Territory and remove Article 370. The Congress said that they will not take part in the elections as after the abrogation of Article 370, many Congress leaders were placed under house arrest. They were very unhappy about this. Similarly, the National Conference (NC) also said that they agree with Congress and will boycott the elections. This is because, their senior leaders – Farooq and his son Omar Abdullah are under house arrest. Ex-CM of J&K Ghulam Nabi Azad said that, while the BJP leaders are not under house arrest and are free while their leaders are all under arrest. How can they take part in the election? At a press conference, Jammu & Kashmir Congress Chief GA Mir said, Election Commission of India should have spoken with political parties before announcing elections. None of that was done. They simply decided and announced the elections. Many leaders are under arrest. How can they take part in elections? Last week the state administration said that political leaders under house arrest will be released slowly after a complete investigation.
